• While media pundits mock Iowa, where a faulty app delayed the results in the first ‘primary” and sent conspiracy theorists into spasmodic delight, the real threat to our Democracy is not a Russian hacker, it’s us. The Federal Government, which can deny highway funds to a state that lets eighteen year olds drink, nevertheless allows states like Georgia and Florida to purge hundreds of thousands of people of color from the voting rolls for reasons that are reminiscent of water cannons and midnight raids.

Last October, Georgia announced they’re removing more than 300,000 names from its lists of voters. And Florida is the only state that allows a private company to purge the voter file of “ineligible” voters. Yeah, that’s right. A private company will make the administrative decision of who is not eligible to vote. And Florida says that a hunting license is proof enough to register, but not a college ID. And before you think this is an attack on southern racism, there’s enough to pass around. In the last sixty days in Wisconsin, a 2016 battleground state, a judge announced 200,000 names from mostly African-American communities could be removed from the voter rolls.

So Russia? You can take 2020 off. The Republicans have your back.
