Boycott San Francisco or Boycott The Facts?

Chip Franklin

There’s a small, but emotional group of Americans who are upset at the Kate Steinle verdict and are calling for a boycott of San Francisco.

The problem is they’re boycotting the wrong things. The jury that found Jose Ines Garcia Zarate not guilty of murder, considered the facts and returned with the only verdict they could. San Francisco isn’t their problem. Their problem is in Washington.

Trump tweeted after the verdict and called for outrage and justice. Of course, this is from a man who is currently obstructing justice and creating outrage. The Attorney General did the same. The Department of Justice wants Zarate transferred to their custody so they can make their Build The Wall case with him as a prop.

Here’s the facts; Sanctuary cities make us safer by allowing undocumented people, including the millions who have been here since childhood to report crime without the fear of being deported.

More facts; these millions of workers represent a significant portion of our nation’s GNP, and without their contributions, economic growth would sputter and stall and millions of other jobs would be significantly impacted.

And the most important fact is that these millions of undocumented workers pay taxes, chaise children, contribute to the cultural and spiritual growth of our cities and communities. The Dreamers are 800,000 strong and 94% work or are in school. 0% have a criminal record and most importantly, none of them is Jose Ines Garcia Zarate.
