It’s said that the President Trump became very upset when he found the first lady watching CNN. She responded to the NY Times report by saying “I watch anything I want.”
For the record, I believe she does. Her husband? Not so much. But is Trump that different from the rest of us? Well, of course he is, but what I’m saying is that most Americans would rather have their beliefs confirmed than challenged. If you disagree, you just made my point.
The truth is, it’s human nature to want affirmation over information. But it’s not healthy. It’s like your mom telling you to clean your plate. Even the broccoli. The world grows from the evolutionary pursuit of better and stronger, and that only happens when competitive ideas and systems are introduced. At worst, they make you question your systems and beliefs that afterwards, you can defend even better. At best, they move you toward new ideas and interpretations that can improve your world. And what’s wrong with that?
As you flip your remote from Demi Lovato, North Korea, The Cohen tapes, Ivanka’s clothing line, immigrant children and the latest Megamillions winner, you will occasionally be inspired, somewhat entertained, and maybe even rationally informed.
So watch all of the networks Melania. And you too America. The truth is everywhere, but in order to find it, you need to eat your vegetables.
