Here Comes The Judge, There Goes Our Freedom
Kavanaugh is a nightmare.
According to Gallup, Kavanaugh has the slimmest margin in favor of confirmation than for any nominee since Robert Bork’s nomination.
Environmental protections? As a D.C. circuit court judge, Kavanaugh has repeatedly ruled against climate change advocates, as well against protections for clean water.
Affirmative action? Kavanaugh actually worked with Bork in opposing race-based affirmative action in college admissions, and wrote an anti-affirmative action brief in a case in Hawaii.
Reproductive Rights? Kavanaugh opposed the Obamacare mandate for contraception coverage, saying that it infringed on the rights of religious organizations. And the decision last fall that permitted an undocumented immigrant teen in federal custody to have an abortion? He strongly opposed her rights.
Most importantly, his extreme right-wing views might offer Trump a very personal reason down the road. Trump, no doubt, sees Kavanaugh as his savior, should a case against Trump go to the Supreme court. Kavanaugh has indicated that he does not believe sitting presidents should be indicted and has argued for a president’s power to remove a special counsel at will.
And finally
The obvios conflict of interest…
The son of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy was leading the real-estate division of Deutsche Bank when it handed President Donald Trump over $1 billion in loans to finance his shitty real-estate projects when other banks wouldn’t. Kennedy and Trump hand-picked Kavanaugh.
That’s a conflict of interest. And a great concern to any true American paying attention.
