Does “Smart” Barbie Look a Little Heavier?

The latest barrage of sexual assault and harassment allegations against men has me thinking and viewing the world differently. As it should.

A friend sent me this picture of two Barbies. There’s the “scientist” Barbie and “ice skater” Barbie. They are both attractive representations, but the scientist Barbie seems to be dressed more modestly, and she appears to be heavier. I don’t know if it’s true, mostly because researching the dolls section at Toys R Us would be creepy, and I have the internet. And I have found an abundance of articles begging Mattel to create dolls that more accurately portray what a woman really looks like. I included a picture of a doll that is much more proportional to what girls look like.

I don’t have daughters, but I do have opinions. A lot of them. And one of them is pretty basic; young girls can be scientists, or ice skaters. But don’t shape their future around their shapes. You wouldn’t do that to your son.
