Back in 2018, when Trump instructed Justice to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, prosecutors budged. When more than a thousand Federal prosecutors, after reading the Mueller report, declared Trump had obstructed Justice, the earth shifted. Again. Today, four prosecutors who handled the prosecution of Roger Stone withdrew, and one quit his job entirely. More rumbling.
Roger Stone had been a Trump accomplice since the 80’s and was the last prosecution by Mueller. He was tweeting about WikiLeaks before the actual data dumps, suggesting he was deeply involved with forces outside of the US working to affect the outcome of the 2016 election. He defied the FBI and Congress, and Justice suggested 7-9 years in Federal prison. Trump reacted, declaring the sentence unfair and now Justice seems poised to reduce it greatly.
Historically, Presidents have allowed the Attorney General and the Justice Department to operate independently, to pursue justice without interference. But Trump has no such intentions. He is driving out dedicated public servants and filling the positions with family and mobsters. That rumbling has turned into a quake, and if reelected, Trump’s dismantling of our Republic may be complete.
