President Trump’s over-the-top rhetoric has the world on edge, but what effect does it have on Kim Jung Un? Good question, right?
As we gauge the international reaction to North Korea’s continued missile launches, here’s a list of what we don’t know;
Does Kim have the capability to launch a missile with a fissionable device attached?
Does He have the political backing to attack?
Could he launch an ICBM and hit the mainland US?
Does he have the ability to target cities?
But the most important question is; why would he launch? He would be committing suicide in every form, political and literal. Surely North Korea understands the might of the US nuclear arsenal. Does Kim believe we would not respond? Of course not. Does he believe he could win? That’s ridiculous.
The only reason Kim would fire is if he believed an attack on his country was imminent. And the only reason he would believe that would be if Trump left him to no other conclusion. This is not a game of chicken, because we are both vulnerable. Not to mention the 25 million people in and around Seoul. Surely, Mattis or Kelly understands this, and will not allow Trump to take us any closer to a political scenario where millions of lives would be at risk.
