FOX: Singing a Pandemic Tune

March 17th, 2020

Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham were just last week accusing the media of “whipping up hysteria” and fanning the flames of bias against the President. This against the backdrop of many FOX journalists who report just the opposite during the network’s day programming. Then Tucker Carlson pushed back, claiming the virus was very real. Now, Newt Gingrich reports from Italy that the US needs to take serious the threat that this virus could kill hundreds of thousands of Americans.

And capping it off is Trump, whom actually said he’d thought it was a pandemic all along. He really said that.

Of course, the internet says different. Trump, on March 9th, “The Fake News Media and their partner, the Democrat Party, is doing everything within its semi-considerable power (it used to be greater!) to inflame the CoronaVirus situation, far beyond what the facts would warrant. Surgeon General, “The risk is low to the average American.”

But by definition, a pandemic raises the risks considerably, especially to older Americans.

There are many downsides to social media, and the internet as a whole. But one truth stands out; it has a memory. Trump and the GOP can lie, obfuscate, and misdirect, but they can not hide history. Not yet.
