Quarantining Hate

February 27th, 2020

The Coronavirus poses a threat to a significant number of Americans. That said, the vast majority of us will be fine; it’s not the apocalypse. The real danger isn’t the virus, it’s the ideological calculus of Republicans.

Trump and his ever-shrinking circle of sycophants and carpetbaggers are laying their hopes for 2020 and beyond on white, middle aged Christian voters who can hand them electoral victories. The GOP has given up on the popular mandate and have instead quarantined themselves inside the cloak of xenophobic bigotry, not seen since the era of McCarthy and Roy Cohen. Whether it’s the latest attack on Hispanics via ICE and the Sanctuary City assault, or thru Trump’s cuts to programs which would benefit African-Americans in our inner-cities, it’s obvious he’s playing for a select crowd.

For Trump, it started with Stephen Miller and the concept of a wall, and grew into an industry. Led by Breitbart, Drudge and FOX news, there’s dollars to be had by scaring white people into believing people of color are moving in. But the truth is this; Trump’s attack on “the swamp” is crushing the very core of people who hand him these electoral landslides. Their hospitals are closing and their infrastructure is collapsing, yet they remain blind to the cause and the con.

The Coronavirus however, is immune to political skullduggery and may, ironically, be the cure for disease that is Donald Trump.

To be continued…
